Beverley Townsend

Dr. Beverley A. Townsend is the Interim District Health Director for Clayton County Health District. In addition to being Interim DHD here in our district, she is also the Commissioner of Public Health for Columbus, GA and the District Health Director for West Central Health District (District 7).

Dr. Townsend earned a BS in Chemistry from Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi; an MS Degree in Pharmacology and Toxicology from Purdue University; then went on to earn her MD  at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. She also earned her MBA degree from Kennesaw State University.

Dr. Townsend is board certified in Family Medicine and completed her residency in Family Medicine at The Medical Center (now Piedmont Regional) Department of Family Medicine. She practiced Family Medicine in the rural counties of the Chattahoochee Valley area for nearly twenty-five years.

Dr. Townsend has received several community service awards and an international award from the American Public Health Association. She has served numerous professional societies including serving as Treasurer for the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians and President, Secretary and Chaplain of the Columbus/Ft. Benning Medical Association.
